Farm Activities

At Woolly Bugger Farm, we have outdoor activities to suit every member of the family. Whether you prefer to unwind in the beauty and tranquillity of the African bush or enjoy your fill of rural adventure, we have you covered. We offer fishing in two fully-stocked dams, walking and mountain bike routes, game watching, birding, treasure hunts, an entertainment lapa, and more.

Fly Fishing

Our two fully stocked dams are a fisherman’s delight. The top dam is stocked with rainbow trout and is fly-fishing only, while the bottom dam is stocked with bass and some carp. We have rods available to rent for R100 per day and charge R150 per kg for catch and keep.

Walking & Hiking

Spend your day under the African sky, exploring 15 km of mapped nature trails which wind their way through cool valleys and over gentle hills. You’ll be treated to diverse plantlife, game sightings, and spectacular views of our farm and the surrounding area.

Game Watching

The farm hosts a small selection of African game and wildlife, including zebra, blesbok, nyala, red hartebeest, and gemsbok. If you’re lucky, you may even spot an African civet, vervet monkey, rooikat (caracal), duiker, porcupine, or mongoose.

Birding

Located alongside the majestic Steenkampsberg Birding Route, our farm is home to a wide variety of migrant and indigenous birds. Many of our birder visitors have taken full advantage of our untouched landscape and added new species to their life lists.

Top of the World

A favourite spot of all those who visit Woolly Bugger Farm, and the location of more proposals than we can count, the Top of the World rock formation treats hikers to one of the most spectacular views in the area. A sunrise or sunset visit is particularly worthwhile.

Mountain Biking

For those wanting something more adventurous, our farm’s 4 km of dirt road and 15 km of nature trails provides for some technical mountain biking. The Tonteldoos area’s dirt roads are excellent for long rides, though be prepared for extreme hills and rough terrain.

Entertainment Lapa

Our entertainment lapa is ideal for group gatherings, featuring braai facilities, wooden tables, toilets, a small splash pool, a large fire pit, and garden games. The lapa is available to any guest on the farm, though a small cleaning fee will be charged if a mess is made.

Treasure Hunts

An adventure for the entire family, our two treasure hunts are the perfect way to test your wits and discover the magic of our farm. Follow the maps, collect the secret clues, and you’ll be treated to a taste of Woolly Bugger’s secret treasure.

Tonteldoos & Surrounds

Despite our farm’s remote location, the local area has some charming attractions. Visit the Hungry Otter for a country pub atmosphere and hearty meal, enjoy breakfast or lunch at the Cat and Cow, or pop into The Thirsty Walrus for your bare necessities.

Dullstroom

The nearby town of Dullstroom, South Africa’s highest occupied hamlet, is a good day trip option for those wanting to explore the wider area. Dullstroom is home to restaurants, artisanal shops, as well as gin, whiskey, beer, and cheese tastings.

Come Say Hello!

At Woolly Bugger Farm, we operate an open door policy. If you’d like to say hello, we invite you to come up to the farmhouse and pay us a visit. If our schedules allow, we’d be happy to introduce you to some of our animals and tell you a bit about the property. On occasion, we also have community braai’s at the entertainment lapa that our guests are welcome to join.
